User reviews

Okay; This is going to be a long but descriptive review, so bare with me.I have dark brown hair naturally. I did ombre it last April, so my ends were bleached blonde. I wanted something different, so I went to my stylist and dyed my hair purple.Of course, the dye faded to pink within two weeks. My stylist had moved though so I knew that I would have to eventually touch it up myself, but I got busy and didn't pay much attention to it. But then my hair got to the point that it was turning orange because it had faded from purple to pink, from pink to light red, and from light red to light orange. Not cute. So, I scrolled through amazon for awhile and found this. I read all of the reviews, and decided to buy the product for the cheap price. It was expected to arrive January 6th-11th but arrived today, January 5th. I was very pleased about that.I followed the directions on the tube and applied the dye. This was my very first time dying my own hair, so saying that I was cautious and worried was an understatement.Right away, I noticed these things about the dye:1.) It is THICK. And by thick, I mean that it has the consistency of whipped frosting. In my opinion, that's a good thing. That means that it doesn't drip. BUT that also means that once you apply some to the hair, you can't just wipe it off. It stains immediately. So if you have lighter hair, be careful.2.) It stains really well. As in, my hands are currently super purple. The tube didn't come with gloves and I didn't think to buy some before dying it, so yeah. Make sure to get some rubber gloves and be very careful because if you get this on your face or neck or any other skin, there is no washing it off. It will STAIN for a few days most likely. The tube said to leave it on for 20 minutes, but I left it on for 40 minutes. I wouldn't suggest that for everyone, but it's a trick that my stylist taught me years ago. You just have to let it soak in.3.) When you wash it out, you have to scrub really hard. Make sure to shampoo it really well because otherwise it will stain your clothes and any other fabric that it touches. (I know this because I failed to rinse it all out the first time and stained my shirt when I let the wet hair down.) It will also stain your towels and any countertop that it comes in contact with. Be extremely careful or you will have a purple bathtub. Also, don't forget to condition the hair afterwards. I wouldn't deep condition if I were you, but conditioning the hair and MAKE SURE TO WASH WITH COLD WATER. This seals the dye in and makes your hair softer.4.) The hair appears very dark at first after dying, but once it dries, it's gorgeous. The dye suggested sealing it in even more with heat, so I used a blow dryer on my hair and it just kept getting lighter and more vibrant as it dried.5.) It looks like a dark, sultry purple in dim/dark lighting, but in natural lighting, it's bright and vibrant and gorgeous. I love both ways.I obviously dyed it today so I haven't washed it again since then to see how much it fades, but I am overall very pleased with the dye and the hair. The dye came as pictured and the color is exactly the same as pictured. I am in love.(Below I have pictured a picture of me before where you can see how orange my hair was and then a few shots of the purple hair in different lighting.)3.) When you rinse it out, it takes som
This dye works pretty well on dark hair. I wanted something a little darker and more subtle, so I looked for a dye that didn't require me to bleach my hair. I left it on for about 90 minutes before washing it out. It's noticible but not in your face bright. If you want it to be a similar color to my shirt, you should lighten your hair first. It did dye my scalp a bit because my hair is so short, but I am confident that will come off after a couple more showers. You will get color all over your tub when washing it out, so be prepared to clean that up before it sets. I missed a small spot on my sink that will not easily come up now.I look forward to trying this brand in different colors.
joico color stays vibrant for SO long!! i'm trying to fade my hair now for military purposes, and I can't get the joico to fade!! I'm not upset with this - it's great! and the purple is just so pretty!
Color is true to what was expected (hair was bleached first) and when it fades it doesnt look all grey and dull, fades to a pink color that was also nice. Been wearing this color for about a year. get about 2-3 months in between touch ups. Love it! Took full tube for my mid back long hair first 2 times I applied it - touch up since take about 1/2 tube.
This stuff is awesome. It lasts for a long time and the color is brilliant. It fades to a lovely magenta in blonde hair after a week or so. Also, it doesn’t seem to damage my hair as much as other semi-perm dyes.
My favorite brand of hair dye. Little goes a long way and the color is long lasting if you buy the right sulfate-free shampoo.
Color: Amethyst PurpleThis color came out gorgeously on bleached hair. So rich! And my hair feels great too.
